Set in the rural Weald of Kent surrounded by picturesque countryside and ancient parkland, the venue has changed little over the centuries.

This venue is one of England's finest privately owned historic houses, has been the setting for sumptuous entertainment on many occasions throughout its seven centuries of history. Kings, Queens, noblemen, great soldiers and poets have all dined within the walls of its great mediaeval hall, which has been described as one of the world's grandest rooms.

Another special feature of this venue is the 11-acre formal walled garden, with records dating back to 1936. Today the flowers and plants bloom throughout the year. From spring flowering bulbs, through fragrant summer roses and exuberant herbaceous borders to mellow orchard fruits. The garden culminates in a vivid blaze of autumnal colour before the winter starkness reveals its original shape and structure.
